Keep your little ones moving this Halloween with our fun Halloween physical activity ideas!
This spooky twist on a kid classic, is always popular. Assign one child to be a zombie, their job is to tag the other kids and create a zombie army. The zombies need their best acting skills, and a reminder that zombies can’t run, they must remain in character! Once a child is tagged by the zombie player, they are also now a zombie, and will now tag other players to zombify them too. Add an extra level to the game by assigning a doctor, who when they tag a zombie player gives an antidote and converts the zombies back to human players. Set a timer and see which team has more players on their side at the end.
Nothing beats a Halloween disco! Kids love dancing to Halloween songs and competitive games, so why not combine them. Play some Halloween tracks and let them bust their best moves. Start and stop the music at intervals, and when the music stops, they need to “drop dead” the last player to drop down is out, repeat until you have one remaining player who will be crowned the winner.
Using a marker pen write on pumpkins, or alternatively pumpkin shaped paper, a range of physical activities on each e.g., hopping, high knees, skipping, burpees, squats, sit ups etc and create a pumpkin patch full of activities. Players on instruction must run to the patch to collect a “pumpkin” and run back to their starting spot to perform the activity on the pumpkin for either a set amount of time or reps you set. The players then run back to return the pumpkin and collect a new activity. As the players get to know the different activities, they will be making a bee line to get their favourites and sprinting to avoid the dreaded burpee card.
Line up witch hats or improvise with cones on the side line, assign a lead witch who will ride a broomstick, or you could use a foam noodle to “fly” and capture her victims. Should a player be tagged by the witch she casts a spell on them to convert them to a witch also. The new witches must collect a hat or cone and help the witch capture as many players as possible. The hats must stay on their head to keep the power of the witch, if the hat falls off and they tag a fellow player, the tag is void and they won’t become a witch. The goal is for the players to survive until all the hats have gone, those remaining players will be the winners.
Set up evenly spaced lanes with cones which will be “gravestones” assign zombies to patrol the lanes who must stay in their graveyard zone. Place a bucket of balls or sweets at one end of the row, and an empty bucket at the other end. The remaining players are trick or treaters whose goal is to reach the end of the graveyard to collect a ball or sweet and return to the start to drop it in the empty bucket, without getting tagged by a zombie. If tagged by a zombie, the player returns to the start to try again. Play until all the sweets or balls are gone.
